COACHING

Coaching takes you places. Wherever you are right now in your life, your work or your relationship, if you’re asking yourself “Is that all there is?”, then it’s time for change. You can be sure of this because you wouldn’t be asking this question if you didn’t already know the answer somewhere inside yourself. And because if you sense that there must be more, that life has more in store for you, then you’re absolutely right: there is more.

Are you ready for change? If you’re not being all that you can be in life, or if something is holding you back or limiting you in some way, then you’re paying a price for this. Your potential for happiness, success and fulfillment is being compromised because of this. Just sensing this or being even vaguely aware that you’re not living up to your potential makes you ready for change. And if you’re unhappy about where you are or the way things are going in your life, then you’re overdue for change!

So where are you right now? In your life, work or relationship? If you have certain goals you’re working towards, or if you’re headed in a particular direction in some area of your life, then you’ve got a way of assessing where you are in relation to where you want to be. This serves as a roadmap for your future, pinpointing your present location and providing directions to your destination.

Roadmaps are great. Why? Because you can find out where you are, where you’re headed for and the best way to get there. But the greatest thing about roadmaps is: you can fold them up, put them away and then… forget about them. Do you really want your life mapped out in detail in advance, with nothing left to chance or unforeseen opportunity? More pertinently: is this even possible? Planning ahead is a good thing – except when it isn’t. If you’re going to plan, then plan for the unexpected as well. That way you’ll get the most out of life. As one philosopher explains: “It is in the confrontation with the unexpected that human opportunity and growth is realized” (Ella Lyman Cabot).

Isn’t coaching about setting goals and getting somewhere with them? Yes, so what you want is goals that are big enough to make a real difference in your world. And not just sometime in the future, but right now as well. Goals that will change the way you experience life and what you believe you are capable of achieving. BIG goals, not small ones. Big goals take you somewhere great in life, where each day is experienced as a new opportunity to live life to the fullest, even in the most difficult times. Small goals take you somewhere not much different than where you now are, just more of the same only different scenery. Why choose for that when you can go somewhere great? Choosing goals that bring out the best in yourself will help get you where you want to be.

There’s a world of difference between the types of coaching available, also the types of coaches who offer this. Coaching that makes no difference between the kind of goals you choose, will make no difference in helping you live to your fullest potential. Coaching that supports you in setting and achieving goals that reflect who you truly are, your purpose in life and what matters most to you, will make… the difference that makes the difference.

Coaching… with a difference

Core-Oriented Coaching® is a model developed by Raymond Huisman to do precisely that. As the name implies, the coaching focuses on getting to the core of things: the essence of a person, what defines and drives them deep inside; the heart of the matter in question; the bottom line or most important thing to consider in a given situation; etc. Once that has been made clear, then it’s simply a matter of finding out what you, your partner or your team really wants – not at a superficial level but at the most intrinsic or fundamental level – and then turning that into a goal. And the bigger the goal the better, as discussed above.

That’s when the fun starts. “Fun”? Isn’t goal achievement a lot of hard work, nose-to-the-grindstone and never-give-up kind of thing? Sure, if you don’t have any other options. But with techniques like those from the field of accelerated human change and development and other cutting-edge methodologies, you won’t need to become an action hero to get what you want in life. In fact, you’ll find yourself working a lot less hard than you probably are right now, to achieve your desired outcomes. Why do things the hard way when there are much easier and much faster ways of getting things done? These aren’t just the ‘tools of change’ you’ll be using – these are power tools.

What’s different about Core-Oriented Coaching®? The difference is you. You are different than anyone else, and there’s a reason for this. You are as unique as your own fingerprint. No one else has that but you. When you find out what makes you different and unique, you receive the key to unlocking your potential in life. Doors will open for you that you previously could not have imagined. Core-Oriented Coaching® is different because it focuses on what makes you different than anyone else.

What makes you different? When you find this out, you also find out the reason for this. If you want to realize your potential and live life to the fullest, then there are a few things you first need to get clear about in yourself. Get It Right! and Core-Oriented Coaching® will help you to do precisely that. You will get clear about the following: 1) who you really are; 2) your purpose in life; 3) your core values; and 4) your unique gifts and talents.

The reason you are different. When you have found out what makes you different, you will also discover why you are different. Your life purpose, your reason for being, will make that clear to you. While that is as unique as your fingerprint, what can be said in general terms is that you were born for a specific purpose, and in order to accomplish that purpose you were equipped with everything you need. You can think of this as a backpack for your journey through life. This pack contains a map, a compass, various utensils and provisions.

Have you opened your backpack? If you don’t open this pack, chances are you’ll lose your way in life, if this hasn’t happened already. And if you don’t learn how to read your map or use your compass, your life will be a survival test and not the wonderful adventure it was meant to be! So if you haven’t already started to find out where you’re headed or what your particular path in life is, then the right time to start doing this is: … right now.
